The MUSA Activities Division presented an exciting blend of entertainment and socialising to welcome Monash University’s freshies. On July 17th, the Monash Badminton Court was transformed into a lively “Global Theatre,” offering a glimpse of various continents’ cultures through engaging games, performances, and culinary delights.

The court featured game stations inspired by different continents where Monash offers exchange programs. Activities included the Ping-Pong Dynasty Duel representing Asia, a tic-tac-toe-style ping-pong game, and Oriental Lantern Painting. Europe was represented by LEGO Minifigure Mania and Landmark Geoguesser, while North America featured Ice Hockey Tryouts and NFL Hole-in-One. Hang-like-a-Koala and Weme, an Indigenous game, came from Australia. Each game offered participants the chance to earn currency based on their performance.

The event began with a performance by the Monash Chamber Orchestra, setting an elegant tone for the day. Various food vendors catered to the crowd, offering a range of delicious treats. The day’s highlight was the Watermelon Eating Contest, where the lively crowd cheered as participants raced to finish a watermelon slice the fastest. At noon, a section of the badminton court turned into a movie and chill corner, providing a relaxing end to the festivities.

The July Orientation Event 2024 aimed to be a memorable introduction to the Monash community, offering a mix of cultural appreciation, fun, and relaxation. Whether engaging in games, savouring delicious food, or enjoying performances, the new students found a warm welcome at this Global Theatre-themed event.
