MUSA returns with a brand new team lined up for the commencement of the upcoming academic year. Before the semester begins, we’re threading lightly and carefully through comprehending the intricacies of our departments. Lot’s of planning and many hours spent reading administrative documents. Regardless, here’s what happened during MSC #1.1 and MSC #1.2. That’s right, so many things to discuss and scaffold before the semester starts, we had to divide the first student council meeting into two days.
Appointment of Interim Office Bearers
Not all positions have been filled and not everyone is entirely happy with the state MUSA is in right now since we’re lacking office bearers in certain MUSA divisions. First order of business, the general secretary calls for a motion for the appointment of interim candidates. Here’s a summary of all contested interim positions and how your office bearers voted.

We Want You!
If you haven’t seen the MUSA Instagram page, all MUSA departments are recruiting subcommittee members until the 17th January! We need all the help we can get to ensure that student life in Monash remains as lively as it was last year. On that note, MONGA is also recruiting subcommittees! We’re currently looking for videographers, photographers, and especially graphic designers. If you’re looking to further your creative aspirations, please join us.
New Year, Old Events
Old definitely does not carry negative weight in the context of Monash flagship events. Where would we even start without Monash Cultural Night or Monash Ball? MUSA has already started planning some of Monash’s largest events. They are of course still in its purest form but trust that your office bearers are on it! The vice president’s department has announced that plans for TEDx 2025 have begun with the search for their TEDx in-charge.
MUISS definitely has plans of their own too. Preliminary discussions and rough budget proposals are in the works for Monash Cultural Night and One World with the central premise of these discussions being strategies for further inclusion of diverse international communities. Along that, the activities division has an exciting lineup of events in store for us throughout the year. A new addition to the list would be their Charity Colour Run that will proceed with the collaboration of the welfare division and the clubs and societies division.
Your Gateway to Student Life
The activities division is busy with planning, the school representatives are holding ad-hoc meetings, we are definitely looking forward to meeting fresh new faces at the February orientation coming up on the 24th of February. The first two days of the week would be general introductions to Monash and your student representatives. The third and fourth days are filled with exciting activities planned by the school representatives and the activities division for everyone to get acquainted with this exciting new environment.
The Unfortunate MONGA Setback
Good news always comes with just a little bit of bad news and unfortunately, this time the bad news comes from the 2024 MONGA editors. The 2024 MONGA mega issue will not have physical copies printed to be given away for students to hold onto. This decision was certainly not made lightly and many technicalities went into deciding on what was best for MONGA. Regardless, do have a look at the mega issue published online! The 2024 editors did a fantastic job at highlighting all events and providing the student body with a platform to relish in creative art. Know that the 2025 MONGA mega issue will definitely be out by the end of this year!
That’s all from us and we hope you’re having a great break so far. Enjoy your time off before the inevitable grind begins once more to squash our hopes and desires.
